Palliative Care is Medical and Supportive Care focussed on improving Quality of Life of people with serious illness and of their family or caregivers.

It provides relief from distressing symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite and difficulty sleeping.

Pain management is a very important part of Palliative Care as in some forms of cancer, patient may undergo severe, iintractable pain. Morphine and other opioids are used to manage pain.

It also addresses psychosocial, emotional and spiritual issues faced by patients and their families. Palliative care helps patients carry on with their daily life. It improves their ability to go through medical treatments. It helps them better understand their condition and their choices for medical care. In short, they can expect the best possible quality of life within the limitations imposed by the disease.

Palliative care is, not always, Hospice or End-of-Life Care. It can be provided side-by-side along with curative treatment. It is an extra layer of care which helps patients and their families go through the cancer journey with minimal difficulty and ensuring the best possible quality of life for them in the given circumstances.

Depending on the severity of the distressing symptoms faced and the desire of the patient, Palliative Care can be provided in our In-Patient Facility or in our Out Patient Clinic or it can be provided at the Home of the patient by our Home Care team.

In the event of the demise of a patient, palliative_care is provided to family in the form of bereavement care.

Palliative Care when provided in the end-of-life stage (last 6 months) is termed as Hospice Care.

It is provided to patients when all curative options or treatments have been exhausted and patient continues to have distressing symptoms which could be physical, psychosocial, emotional or spiritual.

Hospice Care continues till the last breath of the patient and even thereafter as bereavement care to the family and loved ones of the patient. Depending on the severity of the distressing symptoms faced and the desire of the patient, Hospice Care can be provided in our In-Patient Facility or it can be provided at Home of the patient by our Home Care team.
